Effective Work from Home Tips (Backed Up by Science)

You may think, work from home means endless hours of work. It will be if you do not know how to set boundaries and strategize your day. Your superiors may think, having all the comforts around you, and work from home is not as effective as working in the office. However, it’s entirely the opposite. Here at Enadoc, we will discuss some work from home tips.


Airtasker’s study says working from home is productive and fruitful, and it’s becoming a lifestyle having many people looking out for work related to remote work opportunities.  


Many employees believe their secret to productive remote working is the very same secret their employers try to enforce at the office. Having scheduled working hours, accepting distractions and finding solutions to focus on your work, prioritizing tasks by maintaining a list of To-Do list, and taking healthy breaks in between working hours. 


Working from home is not all about burning yourself with longer working hours; it can be productive and fun if you know the right way to do it. 


Here are the most effective work from home tips:


1. Make yourself feel like you are going into the office 

Working from home was a luxury for most of us. Today whether we like it or not, working from home is the only way to move forward with the current COVID-19 situation. Remote working can eliminate dusty and exhausting hours that you spent on the road commuting.

Did you know people spend a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes on their one-way commute? Research shows it’s not only unhealthy for you but your family, employer, and the economy as a whole. Provided that, let’s not break your usual routine.

The fact that you no longer have to commute to work may give you more time to sleep a little longer. Thus, it’s essential to get up, get ready, sit up at a table with a good posture, and maintain a routine. Recommendations to always sit in a comfortable positing and have your shoulders pushed back to avoid any back injuries. 


2. Have a feasible to-do list  

Science shows that having a healthy structure to your day can boost human productivity levels. A study conducted by professors Baumeister and Masicampo states making a plan to get each task help to free us from anxiety. Lists and goals help you to have more clarity on prioritizing your work and help you to focus on each task. You are your manager when managing your work from home.  


3. Take a walk during meetings while you can  

Perhaps you don’t always have to do your sessions while seated. Seated meetings are becoming more traditional. Take your Bluetooth headphones and try to take a walk inside the house. Research conducted at Stanford University shows walking leads to enhancing your thinking and creativity. Harvard business review shows It also leads to honest correspondence between employees.

4. Use your commute time as a rest time

Rather than starting your day with a stressful morning, create space for yourself, and use the commute time to relax and calm your mind. 5. Select the right tool to communicate & collaborate 

Remote work can get overwhelming at times, especially having all the members of your family around with multiple schedules and activities. The CEO of Miro, Andrey Khusid, explains that it is best to have reliable productivity tools to boost productivity levels. Having multiple devices to set your conference calls and get your work done at the same time is a bonus.  


6. Accept distractions and find a way to concentrate  

Putting yourself into distraction-free mode will get the best out of your day. Did you know 64% of the time we are distracted when working in the office? Train your brain to stay focused. Did you know our mind is like a muscle? You can adopt a few concentration techniques like the Pomodoro Technique, where you work in short sprints with regular breaks.

If you are always disturbed by the kids at home, maybe it’s time you set a schedule. Having a plan can help to prioritize your work and give time to your kids at the same time. Also, explain your working hours to the kids for better understanding.  


7. Find time to have a little fun with colleagues.  

Did you know happy employees are healthier rather than spending the day doing work? Having a little fun at work can increase communication and collaboration among employees. 65% of the knowledge workers collaborate in a day, and having a better conversation will help to collaborate effectively.

Study shows that more than 1 in 10 Millennials prefer work relationships are essential than their workload. Amidst uncertainty created by the novel coronavirus, Humor, jokes, and laughter can ease your day, giving you a little time to relax before ending a stressful load of work, and it also gives you time to understand your co-workers better.  


8. Get some exercise and drink water

Try to get some fresh air, and include a small 15 minutes workout in your routine before or after work. Doing a short workout can help you to have a productive day allowing you to focus better. Exercise is not only about being fit; however, it helps to increase your lifespan.
