In a landmark move by a parliamentary government, People’s Majlis held their legislative session online last March 30.
71 of the 87-member parliament logged in via Microsoft Teams to facilitate the virtual meeting to discuss steps in combatting the novel coronavirus. To date, Maldives has reported 20 confirmed cases. Maldives is an archipelago located in South Asia and lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India. It is considered as the smallest Asian country by land area and population with over half a million population.
This historic move to conduct sessions online enables effective social distancing and ensures continuity in policy formulation and public service despite enforced quarantine.
The selection of Microsoft Teams as their web conferencing platform has been a result of careful evaluation taking into consideration the need for secure communications and collaboration despite remote work.
Tech One, Microsoft, and the Parliament’s technical team worked hand in hand to make this possible.
Teams is a secure hub for teamwork built by Microsoft and built-in Office 365 plans for free.
